A beginner’s guide on how Search Engine Works

Spread the love

WELL !! lets unleash the knowledge about What is a search engine and how search engine works??

A SEARCH ENGINE is a program based on wen-tool that searches and identifies items in a database corresponding to keywords or characters specified by the user , used especially for finding particular sites on  WWW(world wide web). Enabling users to locate information on the www by using automated software application which travels along with the Web, following links from page to page, site to site.

THE HISTORY OF HOW SEARCH ENGINE WORKS UNDER 10 MINUTES!!

It works by taking a list of known URLs, which then go to the scheduler and then the scheduler decides the timing of crawling each URL thereby Crawled pages then go to the parser where vital information is extracted and indexed and thus  Parsed links go to the scheduler, which prioritizes their crawling and re-crawling. Thus by after searching, it return matching pages, and algorithms rank them by relevance.

With this diagram the process would be evident:

Let’s dig deep into the technique used to build and maintain web index in order to understand how THEY work.

SCHEDULING:

The importance of new and known URLs is assessed by the scheduler. Then it decides the moment when to crawl new URLs and how often to re-crawl known URLs.

CRAWLING:

It’s a computer program that downloads web pages and new content is discovered by them by re-crawling known pages in which new content could be added over time.

FOR example when a blog is published it gets pushed in the top of the homepage that bears the link.

FOR example when yahoo re-crawls that same page, the recently added links get downloaded with the content of the page.

Just a tip : crawling is not same as “following” links  from page to page

PARSING:

WELL it’s defined as extracting links from the page , along with other vital and key information. Following then it sends extracted URLs to the scheduler and extracted data to index

INDEXING:

USUALLY  engine process the information that is found in an index, whichis a huge database of all the content they’ve discovered and deemed good enough to serve up to searchers byStoring and organizing the content found during the crawling process. After indexing a page , it’s in the running to be displayed as a result to relevant queries. To be honest it is more like a digital library about zillions of web pages.

RANKING:

IT basically answers the question of how does the engine ranks the URLs. Well to begin with it all depends upon the find query that a user’s type in the bar. Depending upon the most relevant query to least relevant query it answers or ranks the pages. To determine this relevance it uses some algorithms I.E a process or formula by which stored information is retrieved and ordered in meaningful ways.

Page-rank

When you type your specific word in the bar in Google search then it comes up with the following suggestions based on “Caffeine” and “MEDIC search” algorithm. IT developed a web engine i.e Google Search, also known as in layman’s term Google. It is the most used engine on the World Wide Web across all platforms, with 92.62% market share as of June 2019 handling more than 5.4 billion searches each day and the order of search results returned by Google is based, in part, on a priority rank system called “PageRank“.

PURPOSE:-IT also provides many different options for customized search, using symbols to include, exclude, specify or require certain find behaviour, and offers specialized interactive experiences, such as flight status and package tracking, weather forecasts, currency, unit, and time conversions, word definitions, and more and the main purpose of IT is to find for text in publicly accessible documents offered by web servers, as opposed to other data, such as images or data contained in databases.

Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Scott Hassanoriginally developed GOOGLE search in 1997. “Google Voice Search” was introduced in June 2011 in order to speak, rather than typed, words and also in May 2012, IT introduced a Knowledge Graph semantic feature in the U.S.

IN 12 June 2001 due to demand of increasing pictures IT also introduced GOOGLE SEARCH IMAGE that allows users to find the World Wide Web for image content. WITH this the reverse image functionality was also introduced.

When searching for an image, a thumbnail of each matching image is displayed and then the user clicks on a thumbnail, the image is displayed in a larger size, and users may visit the page on which the image is used.

Everything you ever wanted to know about how GOOGLE search engine works

Google follows the same way as we described above I.E it will crawl the web and indexes the content it finds. BY then, after you search for some keywords, it finds matching results and algorithmically ranks them by relevance in a fraction of a second.

Google is the best because of these following three things:

First, they crawl and re-crawl the web at a larger scale than anyone other engines which has allowed them to build and keep maintenance of the largest and freshest index on the planet.

Second, also they’ve invested bounds of talents to detect the most obscure or incorrect query in language models that allow them to understand the true meaning behind that particular sentence. For example, they understand that if you search for “Italian restront,” you meant “Italian restaurant.”

Third, and most vital, their ranking algorithms correctly return the most relevant results of all THEM.

Knowing how Google finds and ranks content improves your ability to create pages that show up in the results. If you go in blind without any understanding of what Google values, or even how they discover content, your chances of ranking are slim to none.

Making efforts to rank higher in Google is known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO is a priority for lots of businesses because by creating their own google search websites:

Traffic is “free” from SEO efforts;

Traffic is consistent month after month (as long as you can maintain rankings);

It provides the ability to reach a big audience in some cases.

Here is an example where it has shown how FRUITFUL it is to invest in SEO to get optimum result.
